The Moon's Tear - Chapter 4
I could remember everything from the moment I was born. Yet I wasn't born like the people in the stories that Zaine would tell me when we sat around the campfire, the other hunters asleep in their tents, of great warriors and heroes of the forest. I had no real mother or father.
Instead I was created from the one thing that causes animals to gaze up at it in awe. My parent was the moon.
One night when the moon glowed red, I was a single grain of ancient rock that fell to the earth below. When rain pounded against the ground, the guardian was born. I was born.

The skeletons of trees swayed in the breeze,
The cold nipping at her skin.
She stood upon a secluded hill
In a vast rolling plain of loneliness.
She breathed in the chilled air,
Watching the last crimson leaf
Flutter in the wind.
The time of her namesake,
The death of the past,
The birth of the new.
The sun burned in the setting sky,
Yet no heat reached the lands below.
She settled on the ground,
The feeling of the world's life
Humming beneath her,
In her veins,
In her soul.
She closed her eyes against the empty glare of the sun.
The last one who still remained.
